My DVD will not play DVD disks from abroad

The makers of Movie Films have a policy of releasing new films in different geographic areas at different times according to their marketing strategy. The Film Makers have copyright on their material. In order to prevent DVDs purchased in areas where the film has been released being copied and sent to areas where it has not been released, thereby reducing potential income for the Film Maker, the world has been split into 6 geographical areas called "Regions". For example Region 1 is the USA, Region 2 Europe, etc etc. DVDs are therefore encoded with the Region in which they can be played and this information is usually found on the DVD Disk label and on its outer packaging. Similarly DVD players are encoded with a specific Region as a condition of manufacture, dictated by the Patent Holders. All players sold in Europe are encoded with "Region 2". If any attempt is made to play a DVD from a different region in a Region 2 DVD Player, an error message stating "Invalid Region" or similar will be displayed, and the DVD will not load.

I have an error message "no disk"

This indicates that the DVD Player is unable to detect any disk inserted in the DVD Player Compartment. Check the player using a known playable DVD and Music CD. If these operate normally the Disk is probably faulty. If the known disk does not play, clean the DVD Laser lens as detailed elsewhere in these FAQs and try again. If unsuccessful, check that the DVD LID is seating properly and latching in the fully closed position. If this does not work and the product is within the warranty period, simply return it to the retailer from where it was bought together with your receipt as proof of purchase.

I have an error message "no valid disk"

This indicates that the DVD Player has recognised that a disk is present but is unable to read that it is of a supported disk format. Insert a known playable DVD and Music CD. If these operate normally then the Disk is probably faulty. If the known disk does not play, clean the DVD Laser lens as detailed elsewhere in these FAQs and try again. If this does not work and the product is within the warranty period, simply return it to the retailer from where it was bought together with your receipt as proof of purchase.

I have an error message "invalid region"

This indicates that the DVD inserted is of a supported format but is coded to another geographic region. Refer to elsewhere in these FAQs.

How do I clean the DVD lens?

Occasionally the DVD Lens can become tarnished due to atmospheric pollution or humidity. This reduces the ability of the Laser to focus on the Disk and is consequently unable to read the Disk data. The DVD Lens is situated in the DVD Compartment and can be recognised as the small blue glass lens on the moveable Laser Platform. Special Lens Cleaning Disks are available from local sources however these are not as effective as using a clean cotton bud soaked in CD Cleaning Fluid to gently clean the lens. Leave the lens for 30 minutes to dry thoroughly, leaving no residue, before loading a Disk to check the operation of the Player.

My "Millionaire" or "Manchester United" DVD game freezes whilst playing

This is not a fault of the DVD Player but rather an incompatibility with the software used to produce the game. The DVD format was not designed to run games software. This problem occurs with DVD Players from many manufacturers, world wide.

How long should my battery last?

This depends on how bright the screen is set to, a brighter setting reduces battery life. On average a fully charged battery will last between 2 hours and 2 hours 15 minutes. It should take around 4 to 5 hours to recharge from being fully discharged. If the battery is only partially discharged it should be charged only until the green "Charging" Light goes out. Charging will then automatically stop to prevent overcharging.

My twin screen works in the car but not on an AC adaptor connected to the mains supply

Twin screen models are designed as "in car" products and are thus not normally supplied with an AC Mains Adaptor for use in the home. If the Player operates correctly in the car when utilising the Car Cigarette Lighter Socket and DC Adaptor supplied, but has either none or just one screen working when utilising the AC Adaptor, then the Player is not faulty. These models require a high power AC Mains Adaptor to run satisfactorily and it should be rated at 12 Volts at 3 Amps (3000mA). Most adaptors available locally can supply, at most, around 1 Amp (1000mA) and usually only 300mA. A suitable adaptor can be obtained from our Spares Department on 01302 784839 (9.30 - 4.30 Monday to Friday). Running on an underpowered adaptor can cause overheating of the Adaptor and possible damage to the Player which is not covered by the warranty.

My DVD player does not work when connected to my home TV

Ensure that your DVD Player is correctly connected to your TV and that the DVD Player is powered up using its supplied battery or AC Mains Adaptor. The method of connecting the DVD Player to the TV is shown in the instruction book but can vary slightly depending on the Audio/Video (A/V) connections available on your TV. These are usually RCA Phono Sockets, coloured Yellow for the Video signal and Red/White for the Stereo Sound Channels or a multi pin European SCART socket. Connect as appropriate, using suitable connecting leads. These are normally available from a local Radio/TV store if not supplied with the DVD Player. Do not attempt to "Tune in" the DVD signal as it is not being fed to the Antenna. Select the appropriate A/V Channel using the TV Remote Control and for further information on this point refer to your TV Instruction Book.

My remote control does not work on my new player

Have you removed the plastic insulating strip insert in the battery compartment to prevent the battery discharging during shipping from the manufacturing plant. If this was not present for any reason then it was probably removed by the retailer to demonstrate the product and has resulted in the battery running down. Remove the Battery Holder using a pointed tool and remove the Battery from the Holder replacing it by a new Battery, available locally.
